From July, state-owned railway operator MÁV will disappear from 3.5 counties in Hungary

Regional railway company GYSEV will take over 752kms of railway tracks affecting 13 lines for operation from state-owned railway company MÁV from July, the Construction and Transport Ministry said on Wednesday.

GYSEV will take over passenger transport activities gradually, over several stages, the ministry said.

It was in the ten-point pledge outlined by Construction and Transport Minister János Lázár in early January that GYSEV, in which the state now holds a controlling stake, will take over operation of some lines from MÁV in the western part of the country, and the rolling stock thus released could be put into service in the eastern part of the country, the ministry noted.
