Medical doctor Abdulrahman Abdulrab Mohamed as the doctor of the year in Hungary
According to Magyar Nemzet, in an online public vote Hungarians picked “Békés Megye Pándy Kálmán” Hospital’s chief medical doctor Abdulrahman Abdulrab Mohamed as the doctor of the year. He was selected with more than 12 thousand votes. The chief pediatrician of “Gyula” hospital was quite touched by the news – “this is the greatest honor I could have ever dreamed of.”
During the years, the pediatrician developed special relationship with children and their parents – parents have the most critical information about the child noted the doctor.
Friendliness, modesty, kindness and sincerity are what help him win children over during examination.
The Yemen born pediatrician has been working in “Gyula” hospital since 1999; this is my home and for “no amount of money”, I would leave the city and my patients. For me, “Gyula” is the most beautiful and most valuable city in the world.
A number of families living in and around “Gyula” developed excellent relationship with doctor Abdulrahman Abdulrab Mohamed. I know many families in town with whom I have developed an amicable relationship said the doctor.
Abdulrahman Abdulrab Mohamed was born into a poor family in Yemen. He didn’t have money to pay the expensive tuition fees in his native country; so he applied for a Hungarian scholarship for foreign students, mostly, because he had relatives in Hungary and he knew that Hungarian medical schools had good reputation around the world. My teachers in Yemen told me go Hungary because the people are nice there said the doctor.
After one year of language training the young Abdulrahman Abdulrab Mohamed enrolled the “Szent-Györgyi Albert” Medical University in Szeged – he graduated in 1996. After graduation he couldn’t stay in Hungary; he had to return to Yemen, but he wanted to come back badly. During my university years, I made a lot of friends here because I am an open person. After seven years of study, I had many more friends here than in Yemen, so I really wanted to come back the doctor recalled.
Initially, it was very difficult in Hungary, the Hungarian language was very hard to learn, but students at the university and my professors helped a lot he said.
The mno.hu news portal said, after returning Hungary, the doctor settled down in “Gyula.” Today, he is the proud father of three kids, who want to follow their father’s example and become doctors.
I was touched by the result of the vote; honestly, I even shed some tears. Besides the joy, I also feel responsibility towards my patients. I think that losing even one child is an unthinkable tragedy, of which one does not even want to remember recalled the pediatrician.
Commenting on the award he remarked that the prize is my treasure chest, in which many children and parents’ love is hidden.
According to parents, the doctor is an exceptional personality; he always hugs the little patients before starting the examination, which is one of the reasons he can develop special relationship with his patients.
I like to play with kids; when a new patient comes to may office, I always hug him first and after some small talk, when I see the kid feels safe, I start the examination. It is important not to trivialize medical tests; children need to know what is happening to them and why. I never urge them to do anything, when I see that they are not yet prepared for instance, for a blood test, I give them some time. Children trust me much more if I don’t lie to them. I never say it will not hurt, but rather, I tell them, it will be a little uncomfortable, but do not be afraid, because the goal is to heal you. You also must let children cry, because for them crying is a form of pain relief. After completion of the examination, I usually give them some stickers, with their favorite animals on it said the doctor.
