More than 4,700 troops mobilised for border work
Budapest, October 4 (MTI) – More than 4,700 Hungarian soldiers are working along Hungary’s southern borders to build a temporary fence and support the work of police, the chief of the Hungarian army said on public television on Sunday.
General Tibor Benko noted that more than 2,300 soldiers had been mobilised in the cleanup of a toxic sludge spill in Kolontar, in western Hungary, five years earlier.
He said the largest number of troops mobilised was in 2013, when almost 10,000 worked in flood defense operations along the Danube.
