In a Letter dated July 2, 2026, King Mohammed VI, informed the U.S. President of the Decision to name the Tiznit-Dakhla expressway the “Donald J. Trump Highway”.
According to AlJazeera, the Tiznit-Dakhla Expressway, named the “Donald J. Trump Highway,” is a powerful embodiment of deep friendly relations between the Kingdom of Morocco and the United States of America, as well as the great mutual esteem between King Mohammed VI, and U.S. President Donald J. Trump.
In this Letter, His Majesty the King underlines that “While our relations have always been rooted in close friendship and loyalty, they have never been as vibrant and as fruitful as they have during your two terms as President”.
Speaking to the American President, the Sovereign affirmed that “your historic recognition, in 2020, of Morocco’s sovereignty over its Sahara will forever be etched in the memory of Moroccans, from one generation to the next,” adding that this “recognition has given unprecedented momentum to our bilateral relations”.
“To honor this mark of friendship and peace, and as a personal expression of my deep appreciation, I have taken the decision to name one of the Kingdom’s most significant highways after you, calling it the “Donald J. Trump Highway”. Stretching over 1,055 kilometers, this highway is the longest road infrastructure in all of Africa,”
His Majesty the King specified.
“A strategic axis of prime importance, it connects northern and southern Morocco, also linking Europe to the African continent. It unifies our country, in much the same way your leadership has brought our two nations closer to each other in unprecedented ways,” the Sovereign added.
In response to this highly symbolic Initiative, the U.S. President expressed his gratitude to the King Mohammed VI in a message shared on his social media platform, Truth Social, on July 26, 2026.
“Thank you to Highly Respected Mohammed VI, the King of Morocco — Such a Great Honor! I look forward to traveling the entire length of this Great Highway someday, hopefully soon,” President Donald J. Trump wrote.

This initiative further underscores the exceptional strategic partnership between the two countries, a historic relationship that has only grown stronger under the leadership of the two Heads of State, His Majesty King Mohammed VI and President Donald J. Trump.
This expressway was built to international standards as part of the new development model for Southern provinces, launched by the King Mohammed VI on the occasion of the 40th anniversary of the Green March.
As one of the most significant infrastructure projects in the Southern Provinces, this expressway connecting Tiznit to Dakhla, passing through Guelmim and Laayoune among other cities, provides these regions with a highway up to international standards and offers a high level of security.
