Motorists warned to prepare for heavy snow
Budapest, December 27 (MTI) – Hungary’s National Catastrophe Protection Directorate (OKF) has warned motorists to be prepared for heavy snow expected in the west of the country from Saturday, and in the southeast from Sunday.
The OKF said drivers should travel only with tanked up vehicles equipped for winter driving conditions. It also advised packing warm blankets and liquids.
Winter tyres, snow chains and anti-freeze are indispensable for travellers, OKF deputy spokesman Daniel Mukics said.
The snow may be accompanied by winds up to 70km/h in some places, the statement noted.
Drivers can follow the weather on the website of the National Meteorological Service (http://met.hu) and see road conditions on the portal of Hungarian Roads (http://utinform.hu).
