Man falls several metres onto Danube embankment from popular Budapest bar

A serious accident occurred late Friday night at Pontoon, a popular riverside bar located near the Chain Bridge in Budapest. According to reports, a young man leaned against a safety barrier at the venue, but it gave way, causing him to fall several metres onto the stone pavement of the Danube embankment.
The Budapest Police Headquarters (BRFK) confirmed that the incident was reported at 12:36 AM on 17 May. According to Telex, the man, reportedly a foreign national in his 30s, suffered a head injury and was transported to hospital by paramedics. According to witnesses, emergency responders fought for hours to stabilise his condition.
In response to the incident, police collected data at the scene, questioned witnesses, and launched an on-site investigation. A criminal case has been opened on suspicion of “endangerment committed in the course of work” against an unknown suspect.
The venue, Pontoon, is a well-known open-air bar that operates during the warmer months and attracts large crowds due to its scenic riverside location and proximity to major tourist landmarks. The circumstances surrounding the failed barrier and potential negligence are now under investigation.
