The MUNAPEST conference is Hungary’s only Model United Nations Conference (MUN) at a university level. Nine interconnected Committees, a next-level professional challenge and amazing socials, organised by university students with a passion to create the next great Model UN. The conference is going to be held between the 22nd and the 26th of March in Budapest with the main topic: Africa – Increasing development through tackling conflicts.
The organiser of MUNAPEST is the International Diplomatic Student Association (IDSA), which is an organisation for university students, having its seat in Budapest, Hungary. Their main goal is to provide professional opportunities to university students in Hungary, spread the knowledge of MUN and support the education of a new generation of students who are (more) open-minded and aware of the main issues of todays’ world.
But what exactly is a MUN? Model United Nations, also known as Model UN or MUN, is an educational simulation and/or academic competition in which students can learn about diplomacy, international relations, and the United Nations. MUN involves and teaches researching, public speaking, debating, and writing skills, in addition to critical thinking, teamwork, and leadership abilities.
In April 2015, MUNAPEST presented six Committees focusing on the issues of nuclear proliferation and migration, within the system of Interconnectivity, and concluded at the General Assembly. While it was their first attempt at testing many ideas, they were amazed at how Delegates explored the opportunities presented by their system — the quality of Resolutions and Treaties drafted by Delegates being the proof.
Building on the success of last year, based on the ideas implemented in 2015, and the feedbacks gathered from the Organising Team, Chairs, and, of course, the Delegates, this year MUNAPEST will host 9 interconnected Committees with around 200 participants from all over the world.
Socials also play a key part in their conference: MUNAPEST offers delegates a great variety of amazing programmes extremely popular on the European and World stage. Every evening a different, unforgettable social event will be held in order to connect participants in an informal way, while they enjoy the night in the marvelous city of Budapest.
“My goal for MUNAPEST is for it to become known for three qualities — the highest possible professional standards, flawless organisation and debates that challenge and excite even the most seasoned of Delegates while still providing an accessible and enjoyable experience for newcomers.” H.E. Gábor Rácz – Secretary-General
“We would like to achieve a certain conference-wide sense in the aftermath of MUNAPEST, in which all Participants will remember it as the best international conference without a doubt: how it was professional, motivating, well-organized, inspiring and how one could make many new friendships during the tense, technocratic sessions as well as the amazing and spectacular social events.” H.E. Barbara Nyári – Conference Manager
