The National Bank of Hungary (NBH) has filed a report against unknown perpetrators on suspicion of abuse of power.

The report was filed following an internal probe the NBH launched after information “regarding the former management of the central bank and Erste Bank” was made public, the NBH said in a statement on Monday.

Earlier, András Simor, a former central bank governor, said in an interview that he had resigned from his position in the Erste Group because of pressure from the NBH’s former management.

The NBH has submitted all documents at its disposal regarding the matter to the National Investigation Bureau which is already conducting proceedings in the case, the central bank said.

The central bank has operated in compliance with regulations since its new management took over on March 4, 2025, and steps to scrutinise and rationalise its operation have been taken in all areas, it added.
