The Embassy of the Arab Republic of Egypt in Budapest hosted, on 9 July 2026, a reception on the occasion of the National Day of the Arab Republic of Egypt, at the House of Hungarian Heritage in Budapest. The event was attended by a broad official and diplomatic audience, including a number of senior officials from the Hungarian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade, chairpersons and members of parliamentary committees of the Hungarian National Assembly, members of the diplomatic corps accredited to Hungary, representatives of ministries and governmental, economic, cultural, academic and media institutions, as well as prominent members of the Egyptian community and friends of Egypt in Hungary.

H.E. Dr. Ahmed Fahmy, Ambassador of the Arab Republic of Egypt to Hungary, delivered a speech in which he underlined Egypt’s pride in its longstanding and deeply rooted relations with Hungary, and in the growing political, economic and cultural momentum that these relations continue to witness, building on a long history of cooperation, mutual trust and human bonds between the Egyptian and Hungarian peoples. The Ambassador also referred to the national significance of Egypt’s National Day and its place as a prominent milestone in the journey of the modern Egyptian state.

He stressed that Egypt, under the leadership of H.E. President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi, continues to pursue a broad path of construction, modernization and comprehensive development, based on strengthening state capabilities, developing infrastructure, attracting investment, and consolidating Egypt’s position as a regional hub for development, energy and intercontinental connectivity.

Ambassador Fahmy also addressed Egypt’s regional role, emphasizing that peace and security cannot be achieved through force alone, and that addressing regional crises requires political solutions and just, peaceful settlements that preserve the rights of peoples and safeguard the stability and institutions of states. He affirmed that Egypt will remain a force for peace, stability, security and development in its regional environment, as well as an active partner of the international community and the European Union in addressing common challenges.

On behalf of the Hungarian Government, H.E. Ambassador Iván Medveczky, Deputy State Secretary for Bilateral Relations with the South at the Hungarian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade, delivered remarks in which he expressed Hungary’s appreciation for its distinguished relations with Egypt. He reaffirmed Hungary’s commitment to further strengthening bilateral cooperation across various fields, building on the tangible progress achieved in the political, economic and cultural relations between the two countries.

The reception also featured a musical performance by Hungarian harpist Emese Bajtala, including pieces inspired by Egyptian music, in a special cultural reference to the ancient historical roots of the harp in the civilization of ancient Egypt. Guests also had the opportunity to enjoy a distinctive Egyptian atmosphere and a buffet of Egyptian cuisine, reflecting the richness of Egyptian culture and the warmth of Egyptian hospitality.
