New Mercedes plant to start serial production in 2026

German car maker Mercedes-Benz’s new plant in Kecskemét (C Hungary) will start serial production at the beginning of next year, doubling the company’s production capacity in Hungary, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade Péter Szijjártó announced on Tuesday in Stuttgart.

“Annually 400,000 cars will roll off the production lines in Kecskemét after Mercedes’ new factory begins serial production at the beginning of next year,” Szijjártó said. He noted that Mercedes is bringing the production of two model families based on a new platform to Hungary, making Kecskemét an important stronghold for the company’s electromobility strategy.

The minister said that with the expanded capacity, 1 million cars per year will be produced in Hungary, raising the automotive sector into an “elite club” as only five European countries are capable of this volume. Szijjártó also said that negotiations are currently underway for new automotive industry developments and he hopes he will be able to report on specifics soon.
