Wizz Air eyes exotic country with governmental help

Wizz Air, the Hungarian budget airline, seems to have made an important decision recently. Instead of competing for Western European markets with Ryanair, EasyJet and other competitive airlines, it would like to look Eastward to connect Western and Central European cities with places like Mumbai in India or Dubai in the United Arab Emirates. Now, they are eyeing an even more exotic destination, and it seems they will receive massive governmental support to reach it.
New Wizz Air route to Pakistan?
According to Budflyer, a Hungarian air travel-focused Facebook page, the foreign ministry seems to pave the way for Wizz Air’s market entry into Pakistan. Péter Szijjártó, Hungary’s foreign minister, announced on Thursday in Islamabad, Pakistan’s capital, that they would sign an air travel agreement between Hungary and Pakistan, which would enable the launch of direct flights between the two capitals.

Budflyer suggests that the operator of the new flight would be Hungary’s Wizz Air, the country’s “flag carrier”. In 2021, launching a Budapest-Islamabad flight was among the plans of the Hungarian airline. Then, József Váradi accompanied FM Szijjártó to Pakistan on an official visit, where they met and had discussions with with Pakistan’s transport minister.
According to Budflyer, Wizz Air would not only target Hungary with that flight but include its Abu Dhabi subsidiary in the business, which probably means more flights from the South Asian country to the Persian Gulf states, where lots of Pakistani nationals are working.

Another flight announced to launch this year between Budapest and Mumbai (India) depends on the A321XLR’s extended range.
