Hungarian PM to veto the EU’s stricter climate targets?
The Hungarian opposition LMP party has called on Prime Minister Viktor Orbán not to veto EU climate targets. Erzsébet Schmuck, the green party’s co-leader, said Orbán should instead back stricter proposals to reduce carbon emissions.
The European Council meeting on Thursday ended with no agreement on stricter climate targets, so a decision will be deferred to its next meeting in December, she said at an online press conference on Saturday. The outcome largely hinges on Orbán’s stance, she added.

The European Parliament recently proposed cutting emissions by 60 percent, she noted, adding that the Council had discussed a 55 percent threshold. The prevailing view of scientists is that CO2 emissions should be reduced by 65 percent by 2030, she added.

No wonder why the EU wants to get rid of the absurd unanimity policy. Hopefully they will, soon.
It is ridiculous that 1 country of the EU can veto the decisions of 26 others.
Even more ridiculous when one thinks of what Hungary represents in the EU: 1/45 th of the Union’s area and population.
To Orban, the only thing that matters is the milk he gets from the big cow he otherwise openly despises . That milk that makes it possible for him to keep his oligarch friends happy and his illiberal regime oiled.
Hungarians, get rid of him and send the new generation to power. It is time for millennials to take over. Orban has become more rotten than the rotten politicians he was opposing 30 years ago
