Police crack down on Syrian people smuggling ring
The national police (ORFK) have cracked down on an organised group of Syrian people smugglers, ORFK told MTI on Thursday.
Members of the group helped migrants from third countries, mostly Syrians, cross into Austria and travel on to Germany, the Netherlands, and Sweden during the winter of 2019, the police said.
The head of the group was a Syrian man living in Germany, who organised transportation and coordinated the activities of five other defendants.
The police action was assisted by Austrian and German officers.
