OFFICIAL: Hungarian international Milos Kerkez becomes a Liverpool player

Liverpool FC has completed the signing of Milos Kerkez from AFC Bournemouth in a significant GBP 40 million deal, marking a major addition to their squad ahead of the new season.

The 21-year-old left-back has signed a long-term contract with the Premier League champions and is set to compete for the left-back position at Anfield, joining a summer of heavy investment by the club that will see spending pass the GBP 200 million mark.

The Hungarian international underwent his medical and formalised his move at Liverpool’s AXA Training Centre, as the official statement writes.

“It’s a real honour for me, a privilege to come to play for one of the biggest clubs in the world, [the] biggest club in England. I’m just really, really happy and excited.”

“After this, I’ll go home and in my hometown enjoy a few days, and then I can’t really wait to come back and put the training kit on and start to train and prepare for the season.”

“I just want to thank everyone for really showing me big love, even before it will be announced now. And keep supporting the team like you support always, because you’re the biggest fan base in the world.”

“I’m going to give everything – absolutely everything – to win trophies with the club and to hopefully score some goals at Anfield. I can’t wait to hear the roar. And see you soon.”

As Sky Sports reports, before his move to Liverpool, Kerkez had two impressive seasons with Bournemouth, making 74 appearances, scoring two goals, and providing eight assists.

His performances in the Premier League last season were notable, with six assists and two goals in 38 league appearances, making him one of Bournemouth’s standout players. Liverpool had been tracking him for some time, and the transfer was facilitated by Liverpool’s sporting director Richard Hughes, who originally signed Kerkez for Bournemouth from AZ Alkmaar in 2023.

Kerkez’s career began at Hungarian club ETO FC Gyor before a move to AC Milan in 2021. He then transferred to AZ Alkmaar in the Netherlands, where he made 57 appearances over a year and a half.

Internationally, Kerkez has earned 23 caps for Hungary since his debut in a UEFA Nations League match against Germany in September 2022. His talent has been recognised widely, as he was shortlisted for the 2024-25 Men’s PFA Young Player of the Year and was a finalist for the 2023 Golden Boy award, which honors the best European-based player under 21.

Kerkez arrives at Liverpool to compete with Andy Robertson rather than replace him outright, as Robertson enters the final year of his contract. Analysts suggest that Kerkez could be the fresh energy Liverpool needs at left-back, potentially becoming a key player for the club in the coming years.

Liverpool fans can look forward to seeing Kerkez in action soon, with his official squad number to be confirmed later in the summer. The club and the player share high ambitions, with Kerkez promising to give everything to win trophies and make a significant impact at Anfield, eager to hear the roar of the Liverpool crowd.
