Opposition: Orbán is steering Hungary toward Huxit behind voters’ backs

“Hungary has no future outside the European Union as Hungarian people do not have a safe and decent daily life outside the community,” MEP Klára Dobrev of the opposition Democratic Coalition (DK) said on Monday.

Most Hungarians approve of the country’s EU membership, Dobrev said: “We Hungarians want to be Europeans.” She insisted that Prime Minister Viktor Orbán “has been preparing the public for years to have Hungary exit the EU.”

Dobrev insisted that Orbán already had “ready scenarios in his head”. “Why else would he have talked in recent weeks about having to decide on the moment to leave the union, and about having to take a look at whether it is better inside or outside?”

Dobrev said DK was sending a letter to every minister and lawmaker of ruling Fidesz, asking them whether “they support the European Union or want to serve Putin’s interests along with Orbán.”
