Budapest (MTI) – Hungary’s Baptist Charity has distributed 51,300 “shoeboxes” containing gifts donated nationwide among needy children before Christmas, the organisation told MTI in a statement on Wednesday.
The presents, worth a total 150 million forints, were donated by schoolchildren, employee communities, banks, local and central government agencies, the police, and politicians, the statement said.
Over 10,000 donors visited Shoebox Castle, a contact point for the charity in central Budapest’s Deak Square, to deposit their gifts with the Box Fairy, the statement said.
Between December 1-19, charity staff welcomed donations at 200 similar contact points across the country.
