A person was hit by a tram on Margaret Boulevard in Budapest’s 2nd district on Friday afternoon, temporarily disrupting services on several lines.
Tram services disrupted after accident
The accident happened near Mammut shopping centre at Széna Square, where the vehicle struck a person, according to Hungary’s National Directorate General for Disaster Management. Firefighters from the Budapest professional fire service were called to the scene.
Following the incident, trams 4 and 6 were temporarily suspended between Jászai Mari Square and Széll Kálmán Square, according to the Budapest Transport Centre (BKK). Replacement buses operated along the affected section while emergency services dealt with the accident.
Tram 17 was also diverted, running as far as Batthyány Square instead of following its normal route. The service did not call at stops between Szent Lukács Spa and Széll Kálmán Square during the disruption.
Services are already restored
The disruption was relatively short-lived. According to the latest information, normal services were restored shortly after 2.30 PM. The accident occurred on one of Budapest’s busiest tram corridors. The 4 and 6 lines run through central Budapest and across Margaret Bridge, connecting Buda and Pest, while the 17 line serves several areas of Buda.
No further information about the condition of the person involved in the accident was provided in the reports.
