Hungarian Prime Minister Péter Magyar is set to travel to the Vatican on 24 September, where he will be received by Pope Leo XIV in a private audience.
Péter Magyar is about to visit the Vatican very soon
Magyar announced the visit on Facebook, adding that he will subsequently hold talks with Cardinal Pietro Parolin, the Vatican’s Secretary of State and a key figure in its diplomatic and governmental affairs. The meeting will give Magyar an opportunity to discuss issues of interest with the head of the Catholic Church before his talks with one of the Vatican’s most senior officials.
The Pope had a meeting not so long ago with Viktor Orbán
Pope Leo XIV has previously received former Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán at the Vatican. Orbán met the pontiff in October last year and was accompanied by his wife, Anikó Lévai, and several members of his family, writes VG.hu.
During that meeting, the two sides discussed bilateral relations and the role of the Catholic Church in Hungarian society. Family policy, the education and future of young people, and the protection of Christian communities living in war zones were also among the topics addressed. Orbán said afterwards that he had asked the Pope to continue supporting Hungary’s efforts to promote peace.

Tisza delegation previously met the Pope
The upcoming meeting will also follow an earlier Vatican encounter involving Magyar’s political movement. In April, Pope Leo XIV received representatives of the European People’s Party at the Vatican, including members of the Tisza Party. Magyar’s private audience therefore means the continuation of the relations between the Vatican and the Tisza politicians.
