Prime Minister Péter Magyar will not move into official prime ministerial lodgings but will remain in his current residence, he said in a Facebook post on Wednesday.
No prime ministerial lodging, cheaper car
“I am staying in the house where my children feel at home,” he said, adding that he will also continue to use the Škoda Superb he used during the campaign.
The Prime Minister’s Office and the venue for cabinet meetings will be located at 5 Alkotmány Street, near Parliament, in the building that formerly housed the Ministry of Construction and Transport, he said in a post accompanied by a photo of the future cabinet meeting room.

As prime minister, he will only use a blue Škoda Superb that the public became familiar with during his campaign tours. Such a car costs between HUF 16 million and HUF 27 million, depending on the extras. Meanwhile, former prime minister Viktor Orbán travelled in a bulletproof BMW 760i Protection xDrive limousine, which costs around HUF 270 million (EUR 751,000). Orbán claimed he needed a bulletproof vehicle due to an alleged threat from Ukraine.
In March, the press reported seeing a brand-new Mercedes-Benz V-Class minivan.
Orbán also did not live in the prime minister’s official residence, instead residing in his family home on Cinege Street in Budapest’s 12th district.
