PHOTOS: Wall fell on a Spanish tourist and her kids in downtown Budapest
The sorrowful events happened yesterday when a Spanish tourist was walking in Budapest’s famous Kazinczy Street in the 7th district.
According to index.hu, workers were dismantling a building on Kazinczy Street. However, debris fell on a Spanish tourist walking on the street. She was there with her two children, but luckily, the kids did not suffer any injuries in the accident.
The Hungarian Disaster Management Authority told index.hu that their call centre received a ring on Thursday afternoon. They were told that the wall of a building under dismantling fell. As a result, brick and tile covered the nearby Kazinczy Street. Máté Márk Kisdi, the authority’s spokesman, said Budapest firefighters arrived on the spot shortly after the call. They separated the building by cordon tapes and notified other authorities.
The building concerned was one of Budapest’s first private bakeries in the ownership of the Bánd (Band) family. Their bread and philantropy was well-known before and after the first world war. Their bakery closed after WWII and its nationalisation.

The ambulance said they took to hospital a middle-aged woman from the street who suffered limb injuries in the accident. Meanwhile, the police added she was 45 years old. They opened a case for the misdemeanour of professional misconduct against an unknown perpetrator. They have no suspect yet, the police highlighted.
The Kazinczy Street is one of the popular streets of the Budapest downtown. It connects Budapest’s Rákóczi Street (leading to the Keleti railway station) and Király Street (probably the capital’s main gastro street). Among others, it has several ruin pubs, a synagogue and even ELTE University’s Faculty of Pedagogy and Psychology. According to a new study, ELTE University is the best Hungarian university – read more HERE.

I guess the biggest tragedy was the Loss of street ART- the tour guides must be devestated-shows a real lack of respect.
Not sure what this means?
‘They opened a case for the misdemeanour of professional misconduct against an unknown perpetrator. They have no suspect yet, the police highlighted’
Open a case against a perpetrator but have no suspects?
Surely this is the responsibility of the building owners, construction and/or demolition companies under local government and health/safety bylaws? Then again…..
