Poisonous Hungarian vegetable mix in the shops!

Ardo Hungary Ltd recalled a vegetable mix from the shops because of the probable occurrence of poisonous potato parts.

According to index.hu, the National Food Chain Safety Office (Nébih) told MTI on Thursday that the Hungarian company recalled their vegetable mix because of poisonous plant parts. Nébih asked everybody not to use the 2.5 kg Ardo Wok Mix (expiration: February 2025) and the 1 kg Wok Mix (expiration: August 2025). Here is a photo of the two products:

About the poisonous material, Nébih wrote it was solanine, which is a Glycoalkaloid, and is toxic. These chemicals regularly occur in popular vegetables like potatoes, tomatoes, eggplants and green peppers.

The symptoms of solanine poisoning following the consumption of high amounts are a bitter taste and a burning sensation in the mouth. Additional symptoms include flu-like ones, for example nausea, vomiting, abdominal cramps and diarrhoea. In severe cases, lots of nervous system symptoms may occur, e.g. depression, restlessness, shaking, weakness and disturbed vision. Everybody should avoid the consumption of green, damaged, rotten or sprouting potatoes. In Hungary, the maximum amount of solanine in raw potatoes is 100 mg/kg.

Webshop sold fake washing powders

Meanwhile, Hungarian police caught a gang selling fake washing powder online. Hungarian Tax and Customs Office (NAV) officers became suspicious after they saw the company advertisements, offering the detergents of some well-known trademarks for a low price. During the house searches, they found more than 100 packs of fake products. After that a criminal process has been started since the operators of the online webshop could cause at least HUF 500,000 loss (EUR 1,400) to their customers, napi.hu wrote.
