Power outage in Western Europe: Wizz Air cancels flights to and from Lisbon

The power outage affecting Spain, Portugal, and southern France is impacting all aspects of life, including airports. As a result, Wizz Air has cancelled its flights from Lisbon.

According to a statement from the airline, passengers who booked their flights on the website or through the app have already been notified. Wizz Air says that all of its partner hotels are fully booked, so affected passengers must find their own accommodation, with the airline covering the costs.

According to information available on the Budapest Airport website, Wizz Air has also cancelled the 4:45 p.m. flight from Budapest to Lisbon. The airline also said that the situation is constantly changing and they are doing everything possible to minimize delays and cancellations. Therefore, passengers are asked to check the status of their flights regularly via the mobile app or website, 24 said.

On Monday afternoon, a massive power outage occurred in most of Spain and Portugal and some southern regions of France. The French were able to restore power within hours, while the Spanish took much longer. The Portuguese utility company expects it to take up to a week to restore power completely.

    As an aside, two weeks ago Spain declared it had switched to 100% “renewable” energy. Not sure who and how “renews” the toxic and unrecyclable solar panels and wind turbines when they reach their end of service (20 years, generally), or who and how renews the thousands of acres of animals’ habitats that were devastated to install this plastic garbage, or who and how “renews” the wildlife that gets decimated by said plastic garbage… – but hey, all minor details, amirite! The main thing is that wE aRE sAViNg THe PLanEt!
