Water levels on the Hungarian stretch of the Danube are currently stable, with only minor fluctuations of a few centimetres, the national water management directorate OVF said on Thursday, adding, however, that rain has started falling in the river’s Austrian catchment area, offering hope for a rise in water levels.
Citing the latest forecasts, the OVF said in a statement that significant rainfall potentially exceeding 20mm is expected by Friday in the catchment areas of the Inn, Traun and Enns rivers. This amount of rain, they added, could lead to a rise of several decimetres in the Danube’s Hungarian section by the weekend.
They noted that more accurate forecasts for water flow and levels on the Hungarian stretch will be possible only after the rainfall occurs.
