Record-size white truffle found in South Hungary
A white truffle weighing 1,040 grammes has been found in Baranya County in southern Hungary, representing the largest truffle of its kind ever found in the country.
The previous record was 600 grammes, set in 2016, the farm ministry’s press department said on Wednesday.
Both truffles were found by mushroom hunters working for the local NEFAG Forestry Company.
2018 was an exceptionally good year for white truffles, several records have been set and prices dropped thanks to the abundance of truffles found in Italy.
The 600-gramme white truffle found in 2016 has been freeze-fried and it is on display at the Great Market Hall in Budapest.
