Rothschild report underpins viability of Paks upgrade
Budapest, December 23 (MTI) – A report by the international Rothschild group on the Paks 2 upgrade project underpins the government’s position that the project will be viable and will help generate sufficient amount of electricity at low cost, the government commissioner in charge of Paks told public news channel M1 on Wednesday.
This means that with the expected trends in market prices there will be no need for any state aid to operate the power plant, Attila Aszodi said. He added that the project’s preparations included a wide-scale information campaign in localities near Paks, a public hearing in Paks in May and an international briefing on environmental impacts. The environmental licencing is in its last phase and could be completed within weeks, he said.
The prime minister’s office said on Tuesday that it published a report by the independent consultancy Rothschild banking house, which challenges earlier criticism over the viability and profitability of the investment, especially in view of expected electricity prices.
