(MTI) – US Senator John McCain held talks with Socialist leader Attila Mesterhazy, prime minister-candidate of the left-wing alliance Unity, in Washington DC, the Socialist Party told MTI on Monday.
The one-hour tete-a-tete consultation was a follow-up to their consultations in Budapest last week. The two politicians discussed ways of developing transatlantic and EU relations, with McCain raising some energy policy issues.
The Republican candidate in the 2008 US presidential election visited Hungary last Friday for talks with Prime Minister Viktor Orban, Mesterhazy, ex-premier Gordon Bajnai, and senior officials of the Socialist Party, the Dialogue for Hungary (PM) party and the Hungarian Liberal Party.
Mesterhazy is scheduled to give a lecture at the Center for Strategic and International Studies.
