Budapest, November 6 (MTI) – Socialist party leader Jozsef Tobias on Friday asked Prime Minister Viktor Orban to support German Chancellor Angela Merkel’s recent proposal for amending the Dublin Regulation at the EU summit on refugees that will start in Malta next Wednesday.

Merkel’s position coincides with what the Socialists have represented since the beginning of the migrant crisis, namely that the Dublin III Regulation should be replaced by new rules, he said in a statement.

“The Dublin Regulation should be suspended and replaced by a new, single European regulation,” he said.

Merkel said in Duesseldorf on Wednesday that amending the Dublin regime would be a precondition for maintaining the Schengen zone without internal border controls.
