Socialists’ Tobias hopes for left-wing wins in 6-7 county seats
Budapest, September 27 (MTI) – Jozsef Tobias, leader of the Socialist Party, hopes that besides winning the left-wing stronghold of Szeged, a city in the south, the leftist opposition would also provide mayors in 5-6 other country seats.
Tobias told Nepszbadsag daily’s weekend edition in an interview that he considered Miskolc, Salgotarjan, Szomathely and Dunaujvaros as in the bag, while the left has a chance of winning in the Oct 12 local elections in Bekescsaba, Nyiregyhaza, Szolnokon and Pecs, he added.
Tobias said the Socialists would lead by example in these localities and show what kind of alternative to ruling party Fidesz it could provide.
He said he did not wish to comment for the time being on the campaign of Ferenc Falus in Budapest, but he said he would make his opinion known after the elections. He added, however, that the left-wing candidate had not been selected by the Socialist Party.
