Some 3,991 police guard Hungary’s Schengen border
Budapest, June 12 (MTI) – A total of 3,991 police officers guard Hungary’s Schengen border stretching 1,100 km, daily Nepszabadsag said, citing figures from the national police headquarters on Friday.
Police declined to release the number of police officers guarding the 164 km Hungarian-Serbian border, which is considered the most critical stretch, the paper said. According to the paper, more than 700 fewer police guard the borders than before the border guards were merged into the police.
Nepszabadsag said the border guards use modern mobile and fixed infrared cameras that can also be used at night and they can receive helicopter air support if necessary.
