Budapest, January 29 (MTI) – The local council of Heviz, a spa town with a thermal lake in western Hungary, is to make a bid to become a UNESCO world heritage site, business daily Vilaggazdasag said on Wednesday.

Gabor Papp, the town’s mayor, told the paper that in the past, Heviz had tried to get on to the list by making a joint bid with other sites, but now it had decided to go it alone.

The plan is to compete on the basis of its famous naturally occurring thermal lake. This will require assembling a scientific document which demonstrates that the properties of the Heviz lake are unique, he said, adding that this project was likely to take several months if not years.
