SZEP cards boon for Hungarian hotels
(MTI) – About one-fourth of Hungarian hotels’ revenue from room fees came from payments with SZEP recreation cards, part of a unified voucher scheme introduced by the government, an economy ministry official said on Saturday.
Deputy state secretary Viktoria Horvath said payments for room fees with the SZEP card had come to 12.9 billion forints (EUR 43m) this year.
The cards are accepted at more than 51,000 establishments, she said.
The card has been issued by 22,000 employers to about 900,000 people on their payrolls.
Since the SZEP card was introduced, Hungarians have used it to buy 160 billion forints of goods and services at commercial accommodations and catering establishments.
