Szijjarto: external borders can be protected by joining forces
Budapest (MTI) – Foreign Minister Peter Szijjarto thanked his Visegrad Four counterparts by phone on Sunday for proving that protecting the EU’s external borders is possible by joining forces, the ministry said.
It said that Szijjarto phoned the foreign ministers of the Czech Republic, Poland and Slovakia, as well as his Austrian counterpart and the Bavarian minister in charge of international relations and European affairs.
Szijjarto told his counterparts that Hungary has successfully protected the external borders of the European Union and the Schengen area, since the flow of illegal entrants has practically stopped after the “green border” between Hungary and Croatia was sealed.
“With the cooperation of the V4, Hungary has protected Europe, it protected common European values and rules. We have made it clear that by joining forces, the external borders of Greece could also be protected,” Szijjarto said according to the statement.
