Szijjártó: Ukrainian drone attack on TurkStream foiled, calls for EU clarification

A Ukrainian drone attack on a compressor station of the TurkStream gas pipeline has been foiled by Russian air defence, Foreign Minister Péter Szijjártó said in a post on Facebook on Saturday.
Szijjártó said his Russian counterpart, Sergey Lavrov, had informed him that Russian air defence had neutralised the three drones. The TurkStream pipeline is a guarantee of Hungary’s gas supply and any possible interruption of its operation would seriously impact the country’s energy security, he added.
“As energy security is a matter of sovereignty, this type of attack must be seen as an attack against sovereignty,” he said. He noted that the European Commission had recently pledged to ensure Ukraine does not attack infrastructure that supplies the European Union.
“That’s why we are asking the European Commission to make clear, immediately, whether it is upholding this pledge,” he added.
