Tax Office Blocks Four Unlicensed Gambling Domains

Daily News Hungary

(MTI) – The Tax Office had ordered the temporary blocking of four domains used by unlicenced gambling sites before June 25, the office’s press department told MTI on Thursday.

Business daily Napi Gazdasag reported on Wednesday that illegal online gambling sites bet-at-home.com, betclic.com and hu.sportingbet.com would not be accessible after mid-July.

The Tax Office said the temporary blocking of the unlicenced gambling sites would be managed and controlled by the National Media and Infocommunications Authority (NMHH).

Ruling Fidesz lawmaker Erik Banki told MTI on Thursday that state revenues from online gambling would be spent on supporting sport and this is the reason why they would be transferred under the authority of the Hungarian Football Federation (MLSZ).

Banki reacted to opposition criticism of the planned amendment to regulations on gambling.

He said gambling in Hungary is exempt from VAT and therefore any concession fees linked to gambling must also be exempt from VAT. This is also in line with a ruling by the European Court, he added.
