Budapest, August 18 (MTI) – Hungary’s tax office is carrying out fewer audits of assets but discovering more unpaid taxes, business daily Vilaggazdasag said on Monday.
The number of audits of Hungarians’ assets has fallen from an annual 11,000 in 2007 to about 2,000, the paper said. The amount of unpaid taxes discovered as the result of each audit now averages 20 million forints (EUR 63,800), up from 5.5 million forints in 2007, it said, citing data from the National Tax and Customs Authority (NAV).
Audits challenged by individuals at courts were won by the tax office in 65 percent of the cases, the paper said.
