Police have arrested a 15-year-old boy and a 14-year-old girl who stole a van in Debrecen and attempted to escape at speeds of up to 180 km/h on a motorway. Officers pursued the pair and eventually apprehended them around 100 kilometres away. You may check out a dramatic video the police posted about the chase below.

They tried to flee with the stolen van endangering hundreds on the roads
According to police.hu, the official website of the Hungarian police, officers received a report of the theft on the afternoon of 25 June. Using the vehicle’s GPS coordinates, they located the van within minutes, but the suspects sped away before they could be stopped.
Several police vehicles pursued the van into Szabolcs-Szatmár-Bereg County, where additional officers from neighbouring counties and settlements were waiting to assist. The fugitives covered almost 100 kilometres, at times reaching speeds of more than 180 km/h. In Hungary, the speed limit on motorways is 130 km/h.

Police did everything possible to prevent a collision or other accidents, as traffic was heavy on the roads and motorways along the suspects’ route. Officers closed some junctions and slip roads and diverted traffic wherever possible.
Cash also stolen
The dangerous chase came to an end on the M3 motorway, where the van crashed into traffic barriers and came to a stop. Both suspects jumped out of the vehicle and attempted to escape on foot. However, they did not get far, as police officers caught them within minutes in nearby fields.
