Hungary has seen yet another horrible event three days ago: after an argument, a middle-aged man stabbed and set fire to his friend. Shocking details ahead.

The man was charged with attempted murder

A 57-year-old Hungarian man has been charged with attempted murder for stabbing and setting fire to a friend in the yard of a house in Erdőkertes, according to police. As police.hu reports, the two men had an argument before the attack on 4 October, and István R. stabbed his friend five times and then set fire to the tent in the yard where his victim lived, rtl.hu writes.

The man was taken to hospital with life-threatening injuries. He had second-degree burns to his legs and hands and one stab wound to his lung. István R. got into a car after the attack and fled the scene. The vehicle was found smashed up shortly afterwards on Highway 3. The man was speeding towards Aszód when he hit a guardrail, spun around and stopped on the side of the road.

The man fled the scene on foot

An arrest warrant was issued for István R., who fled the scene on foot. The fugitive eventually surrendered in a police building in Budapest. According to police.hu, he was picked up from there in the early afternoon of 5 October 2022 and taken to the Róna Street facility.

According to the on-site inspection and the information obtained, István R. got into an argument with his acquaintance and stabbed him five times. One of the stabs opened a chest cavity and penetrated to the lung lobe, resulting in an immediate life-threatening condition. After the attack, he set fire to a tent in the yard that served as his victim’s living quarters, causing second-degree burns to the victim’s hands and feet.
