Hungary’s governing Tisza Party has announced two new nominees for the European Parliament following changes within the party’s Brussels delegation. Party leader Péter Magyar said on Sunday that Csaba Bogdán and Viktor Weisz will take over the seats vacated by himself and Zoltán Tarr.
At the same time, the leadership of the Tisza Party’s European Parliament delegation will be handed to Eszter Lakos, according to Magyar’s announcement on social media and the state news agency MTI.
Engineer and medical researcher joins Tisza delegation
Csaba Bogdán brings a technical and academic background to the role. He studied mechatronics and medical engineering, while also earning degrees in history and classical philology. His studies took place at the University of Szeged, the University of Pannonia and the Fachhochschule Wiener Neustadt.
He later obtained a doctoral degree from the Faculty of Medicine at the University of Pécs, where his research focused on the human spine.
According to the announcement, Bogdán has held several leadership and strategic positions throughout his career. He managed a university prototype manufacturing workshop, coordinated software development and research projects, and most recently served as managing director of a Budapest-based CT and MRI diagnostic centre.
As an MEP, he intends to focus on strengthening civic participation, increasing transparency and promoting social equality.
Young foreign policy expert enters European Parliament
The second nominee, Viktor Weisz, studied international relations at King’s College London before completing a master’s degree in economics and enterprise development at University of Cambridge.
During his studies, he also participated in scholarship programmes at Stanford University in the field of human and international law, as well as at KAIST in global security policy.
Weisz joined the Tisza community in 2024 and has since worked in the European Parliament as a foreign affairs adviser, analysing international political, geopolitical and foreign economic issues. Before that, he gained project management and innovation experience in Saudi Arabia, Washington, London and Vienna.
Magyar highlighted that Weisz speaks English at a native level and also holds an advanced Spanish language qualification. According to the Tisza leader, the young politician aims to use his international experience and global network to support Hungary’s development and represent the interests of younger generations in European decision-making.
The post also noted that Weisz is set to become both Hungary’s and the European People’s Party’s youngest MEP.
