Tourists beware: Three Hungarians wanted for stealing money from foreigners – video
Budapest police (Budapesti Rendőrfőkapitányság, BRFK) have detained a man and are looking for two others believed to have stolen hundreds of thousands of forints from tourists withdrawing money from ATMs in the city’s 7th district.
Police.hu reported on this issue on Wednesday. An investigation was launched after a criminal complaint by a tourist staying in Budapest with friends last September, who said that the thieves had diverted his attention while he drew money from an ATM, running away with his HUF 200,000 (EUR 529). The police established that the suspects had also stolen HUF 360,000 (EUR 954) from two other tourists using the same method.
The perpetrators have been identified and one of them, a 21-year-old man, was arrested on 15 February. The 21-year-old Attila M. was questioned as a suspect on suspicion of the crime of shoplifting. He was taken into custody and a motion was made for his arrest. The court ordered the criminal supervision of the man on 17 February 2023.
In the video, the man in the yellow jacket is the victim, while the persons in the black jackets are still being sought by the police.
The Budapest Police Headquarters asks anyone who recognises the men in the video, has information about their identity, whereabouts or the crime, to report the crime, even if they remain anonymous. 24-hour hotline: 06-80-555-111. Toll-free emergency number: 112.
