Transcarpathian refugees may end up on the streets in Hungary: Maltese Charity in trouble

The Hungarian Charity Service of the Order of Malta will be able to continue to cover the temporary housing it has been providing to Transcarpathian refugees in Kocs, a village northwest of Budapest, only until May 5, the charity said on Wednesday.

It said that it had extended several times its support to refugee families with temporary housing since legal changes took effect in late last August. But after eight months the charity said its resources had been exhausted.

There were 125 people staying in a community shelter with the charity’s support since Aug 21 last year, of whom about 30 are still staying in the facility, the charity said.

It noted that it would continue to cater for a large number of Ukrainian refugee families actively supporting the integration of families staying permanently in Hungary.
