Two Polls Show Former Left Candidate More Popular than Bokros
Budapest, October 3 (MTI) – Two public opinion polls now show that Ferenc Falus, who recently stepped down as the left-wing opposition’s candidate in the election for Budapest mayor, is actually more popular than the conservative who has taken on his mantle, Lajos Bokros.
Both Median and Ispos came to similar conclusions in September readings. Median in HVG weekly said Falus had the support of 12 percent of the sample of 200 as against 5 percent for Bokros. The incumbent, Istvan Tarlos, backed by the ruling Fidesz party, had the support of 37 percent. Ipsos’s results with the same-sized sample were broadly in line with Median’s.
Bokros, a former finance minister in the mid-nineties famous for an austerity package, is now officially backed by Egyutt and the Democratic Coalition.
