US Ambassador denies reports of planned departure
Budapest, September 20 (MTI) – US Ambassador Colleen Bell on Tuesday denied press reports that she planned to depart, saying she was not leaving her post in Budapest in the foreseeable future.
Daily Magyar Nemzet reported earlier on Tuesday that Bell planned to quit after the US election regardless of its outcome. The paper said Bell, appointed by President Barack Obama in 2014, made a decision to leave a few weeks ago.
The ambassador told MTI that the paper had not sought the embassy’s reaction. Had it done so, it would have been told that nothing is further from the truth, she added.
Bell said she was gladly serving her country as the ambassador in Budapest and would continue as long as it is possible.
