US Entry Ban – US Embassy not to Comment on Communication with Hungary Govt
Budapest (MTI) – The US embassy on Friday said it would not comment on its communications with the Hungarian government.
The embassy issued a statement in response to a request for comment concerning the document that was handed over before to the foreign ministry in connection with the US entry ban affecting certain Hungarian individuals.
The document listing mainly corruption concerns raised by the embassy in recent years was released on the Hungarian government’s website on Thursday.
“We generally do not comment on private communications between governments or with private individuals,” the US embassy’s spokesperson said in the statement.
“As we have noted before, however, the U.S. government is in close, frequent contact with the Hungarian government at many levels on the whole range of issues on which we cooperate, including the fight against corruption, and we will continue to work closely with the Government of Hungary on these issues,” Elizabeth Webster said.
