Former Hungarian prime minister Viktor Orbán has announced his return to political work following the summer break, posting a short but striking message on Friday evening: “I’m back. Then let’s get cracking!”
Orbán set to speak at “Kötcse picnic”
The Fidesz leader did not provide any details about his plans, but accompanied the message with a fast-paced video featuring highlights from his previous political appearances, including scenes from earlier Fidesz gatherings and Kötcse picnics. The timing of the announcement comes just one day before Orbán is due to address an important Fidesz gathering.
Viktor Orbán is scheduled to deliver a speech at the Kötcse Picnic on Saturday, 12 September, where he is expected to outline his political strategy for the period ahead. The Kötcse meeting is considered one of the most significant events in the Fidesz political calendar.
It traditionally brings together senior party figures, politicians and members of the party’s wider intellectual and political circle. Orbán has typically used the occasion to assess the political situation and discuss the priorities and challenges facing the party, making his speech closely watched for indications of its future direction.

A message ahead of an important political gathering
Orbán’s latest video deliberately draws on his political past, combining footage from previous speeches and Fidesz events with music from the 2010 FIFA World Cup era. The post itself offered no indication of the specific issues he intends to address at Kötcse.
The upcoming gathering is also notable because attendance is reportedly no longer compulsory for members of Fidesz’s wider political circle, making this year’s event different from previous meetings. Critics of Viktor Orbán and Fidesz argue that the party is facing political and economic challenges and that the former prime minister needs to deliver a strong message to maintain support.
Whether Saturday’s speech will provide concrete policy announcements or focus primarily on political mobilisation remains to be seen. For now, Orbán’s message is brief but unmistakable: after the summer break, he says he is back in action.

As if the National Debt did not exist under the Fidesz regime.. What a joke. Who cares. He would do his country a real service ba retiring to enjoy the trillions he stole while in office. Now all he does, like before, is stirr up trouble without offering solutions. Such a self centered, self interested individual does not deserve to be in public office. Go away you tired, boring kuruc.
