Fraudsters swindled wealthy foreign tourists in Budapest’s party district bars with the assistance of pretty hostesses – VIDEO

The number of fraudsters arrested for fraud committed against wealthy foreign tourists with the help of attractive hostesses in Budapest bars has increased in the last few days, the Hungarian police said.

Wealthy foreign tourists fell victim to the gang in Budapest

According to 24.hu, the fraud scheme was simple: pretty hostesses got in touch with wealthy foreigners coming to Budapest via dating apps. They met the victims in Budapest bars and made them pay for their drinks. The women taking part in the fraud did not get drunk, but their victims completely lost their good judgment due to the amount of alcohol consumed. Therefore, they finally paid the highly overpriced bills.

In other cases, the alcohol consumption of the men remained minimal. Still, their partners drank a lot and made them pay for it, although the amounts appearing on the POS terminals did not correspond at all to the number of drinks consumed. Some victims paid more than HUF 1 million (EUR 2,500) for just a couple of drinks in a Budapest bar.

The fraudster gang’s operation followed a hierarchy: the owners of the bars controlled them, and hostesses, waiters, waitresses, security staff, and bartenders took part in the fraud.

Additional suspects have been taken into custody

Hungarian police have so far identified 33 men from the hundreds of victims, while the financial damage exceeds HUF 1 billion (EUR 2.5 million). The police arrested the first suspects on 11 February: five women and five men in Dunaharaszti. Eight of them are still in pre-trial detention.
