Wishing to work from abroad? Hungary’s one of the best choices according to a new study!

In recent years, the concept of digital nomadism has gained significant traction, with many individuals seeking to combine work and travel. A new study by VisaGuide highlights the best countries for digital nomads, and Hungary has emerged as a top choice, ranking fifth globally in the Digital Nomad Visa Index.

Why Hungary stands out

Hungary’s appeal to digital nomads can be attributed to several factors. According to VisaGuide, the country offers a relatively low cost of living, with a cost of living score of 93.10, which is inversely related to the actual cost, meaning it is quite affordable compared to other European countries.

Additionally, Hungary provides a favorable tax environment, with a flat tax rate of 15% and a six-month tax-free period for digital nomads. This makes it an attractive destination for remote workers looking to minimise their tax liabilities.

Internet and infrastructure

While Hungary’s internet speed is not the fastest among the top-ranked countries, with an internet speed score of 66.11, it is still sufficient for most remote work needs. The country also boasts a vibrant cultural scene and a rich history, making it an appealing choice for those who value both work and leisure.

Global rankings

The VisaGuide Digital Nomad Index ranks countries based on a comprehensive set of criteria, including internet speed, taxation policies, cost of living, healthcare, and tourism popularity.

  1. You will be welcome in Hungary but due to changing political winds do not count on remaining here long term. Many non EU nationals are being refused renewal of Residency at this time due to changing classifications of Residency Permits. I really love Hungary and the people but my time here and investment in the Hungarian Economy with my pension funds was wasted money.
