BREAKING: Chinese President Xi Jinping arrives in Budapest – VIDEO, UPDATE

Chinese President Xi Jinping arrived in Budapest on Wednesday evening just before 9 PM. The official programme of the President will start on Thursday and he will be received by Prime Minister Viktor Orbán at Buda Castle.

State broadcaster M1 Híradó reports that Xi Jinping will be received by Viktor Orbán in Budapest. The Chinese President has not visited Hungary for 15 years, Index writes.

The official programme will start on Thursday at Buda Castle, from where he will go to the Sándor Palace, where he will meet the President of the Republic Tamás Sulyok.

In the afternoon, he will visit the Carmelite Monastery, where there will be talks and solemn signing ceremonies.

According to M1, the Chinese President has met Viktor Orban seven times so far. However, this meeting is special because the Chinese president’s wife is also coming to Hungary, and it is understood that there will be a lunch on Thursday, which will be attended by Viktor Orbán’s wife as well.

Prime Minister Viktor Orbán and Anikó Lévai, his wife, greeted Chinese President Xi Jinping and his spouse Peng Liyuan at Budapest’s Liszt Ferenc International Airport on Wednesday night, Orbán’s press chief said.

The Chinese guests were welcomed by children dressed in traditional Hungarian costumes. Under an ancient Hungarian tradition, they were offered bread and salt and were presented with a short folk dance programme.

The Chinese president will stay in Hungary until Friday on an official state visit marking the 75th anniversary of establishing diplomatic ties between the two countries, Havasi said.
