According to hvg.hu, day- and night shift yardmen refused to carry out commands at Gyékényes station, because they are afraid that the contamination endangers their health. The migrants have already left, but their thrash and faeces are still on the tracks.
Yardmen refused to work at Gyékényes – said the Free Trade Union of Railway Workers (VDSZSZ) on Tuesday, hvg.hu writes.
According to VDSZSZ’s report, both the day- and the night shift yardmen refused to work out of fear that the contamination will endanger their health. Although the migrants have already left the station, everything that they left behind – thrash and human waste – is still there.
The union emphasized that the workers had every right to refuse to work, because according to the labour code the employer is obligated to provide a safe working environment, and has to make sure that nothing endangers the workers. Under paragraph 54 § (2), workers have the right to refuse orders if it clashes with the labour code, and if it endangers the life, the safety, or the health of the workers.
The union expressed their regrets that the Hungarian State Railways (MAV) has still not managed to find a way to compensate the workers financially for their extremely hard work.
