Budapest (MTI) – Hundreds of people gathered at the French Institute in Budapest on Saturday evening to commemorate the victims of the Paris terror attacks.
Hungarian Justice Minister Laszlo Trocsanyi expressed his condolences to the families of the victims and said Hungary shares the grief of the French nation. French ambassador in Budapest Eric Fournier also expressed his shock in a short speech at the event, held with increased police presence.
Several people lit candles and placed flowers in front of the French Institute including senior politicians of the governing Fidesz party and opposition parties.
At separate commemorations, representatives of the LMP party, the Socialist Party and the Democratic Coalition expressed their sympathy with the families of the victims in front of the French embassy in Budapest.
Another commemoration was held in front of St. Stephen’s Basilica. Organised by the civil organisation Tranzit Community, the event was attended by hundreds of people, including Trocsanyi and former foreign minister Janos Martonyi.
