Austrian boy flees home, is found in Hungary at night

Police officers in Debrecen discovered a missing 14-year-old boy in the early hours of Saturday, who had reportedly escaped from Austria following family disputes.

According to a report published on police.hu, the patrol officers noticed the teenager wandering alone in the city centre during the night. They approached him to ask why he was out by himself at such an hour.

During the conversation, it emerged that the boy had run away from Austria and had been listed as missing by the Austrian authorities.

The teenager told the officers he had travelled to Hungary by train after leaving home because of arguments within his family.

The boy was escorted to the police station

Following standard safety procedures, the police escorted the boy to the local police station, where they questioned him and notified the Austrian authorities who had issued the alert for his disappearance.

The Hungarian police have not released further details about the boy’s condition or the circumstances of his return, but he is reportedly safe and under official care.
